Description
DESIGNOIDs series has been in the making for six years now. The concept behind it illustrates alien creatures that are analogues to my real-life experiences. They often represent persons in my life or fears that I have. The ideas behind them focus mostly on my subconscious. The raw sketches are made without much thought before starting. The shapes come through intuition. They are elaborated as I go and I find the true meaning behind them, connecting the organic shapes to my life experiences and attributing meaning to them. This painting was conceived back in 2020 as one of my largest canvases to date. This 1/1 NFT is based on that oil painting with some minor digital adjustments, and the second that was minted under the same name on SuperRare Series starting on 22 June 2022. Designoid 2B is brought up as pure subconscious-driven work. It’s one of those paintings that showed me a lot of meaning while and after working on it. For example, I saw a resemblance to my father, as a sickly old man, and to the right-side painting of Francis Bacon’s works from the “Three Studies for Figures at the base of a Crucifixion”. Seeing meaning emerging in the process was very satisfying and this work was an excellent experiment. The term “DESIGNOID” was coined by biologist Richard Dawkins and refers to an object that came up by accident but appears to be designed. I started this series while I was thinking about Entropy and how life is an inevitable result of the macro and micro-processes of the universe. Life is a catalyst of Entropy, if given the right conditions life will spontaneously appear, abiding by its laws and, very importantly, accelerating it. At first glance, it looks like life has a purpose and design but it is just a means to an end, which is to increase the state of entropy. As entropy in the universe continues to increase, heat will continue to spread until the system has reached maximum equilibrium.
